3rd Grade Picasso faces

1st Grade pattern Turtles.

First we drew a turtle as a class, and students were asked to fill in the turtle shells with patterns. Then, they cut out, and glued their turtle to a pattern road they created.

Inventive Fish and Watercolor-2nd Grade

After inventing and writing about an imaginary fish with super powers, 2nd grade used colored pencils to show off their fish. They were encouraged to draw a small, medium, and large fish. When finished, they created a water scene using watercolor and salt. Then they glued their fish onto their scene.

K reads Ella the Elegant Elephant

After reading a book about a magical hat, students received a sheet with a hat shape and various images to color, cut out, and paste, to design their own hat.

1st graders paint flowers using Primary Colors

We painted the flowers on a separate sheet of paper, added crayon details when they were dry, and for stems we used pipe cleaners. Adrian really wanted to make Venus Fly traps, so of course, i let him. The kids loved being able to paint.

Kindergarten draw birds.

I stole this idea from this other art teachers blog, http://deepspacesparkle.blogspot.com/2009/03/bird-drawing-and-painting-lesson-for.html. It was just too cute to not do! And the results were very cute. The K's loved incorporating feathers into their artwork. They learned patience(waiting for me to draw on the dry erase board my step by step version of a bird), following directions, light application of glue, and using oil pastels!

2nd Grade: Van Gogh Sunflowers

I was going to make this a lengthier project, but 2nd graders attention spans with a still life is kind of asking a lot! So, a 1-class period project it became.....and actually I think this is one of my favorite results of projects so far! I love the way they see things! They were requested to look behind the sunflower and draw what they saw, so you'll see fellow classmates heads behind them at other tables, art posters, the piano. Such vision! :) Each table had a sun flower.
